SFAMI (Supporting Families of Addiction and Mental Illness) has been meeting for over 15 years in Lynchburg serving the Central Virginia area. The core members of this group have been attending from the start. This group averages 5 to 12 people currently. Members participate in a open discussion about what struggles or events that are unfolding in their lives. This is a free support group offered to the community sponsored by HORIZON Behavioral Health The main purpose of this group is to support families and let them know they are not alone. Often members have been heard saying, "No one outside of this group truly understands what I am dealing with". That is where SFAMI comes in and offers HOPE to those in need of understanding.
We have two professional group facilitators to assist with any medical questions or clarification on mental illness or substance use disorders and current treatments. We offer linking to local resources to assist during times of CRISIS. Members often network and form support systems within the group.
We also offer a closed group page on Facebook where members can reach out to each other in-between meetings and have discussions without being viewed by the public.
We welcome new members to attend!
